Its amazing that it is already 12 months since the last time we were busy picking fruit and despite the worst weather for August in some years, the plums are now ready for picking and will be used for Apricot Catering and what we can’t use will be frozen down ready for brilliant puddings during the winter months. This year may be the last big crop for a couple of years as we have to be a little more savage than usual on the pruning as the trees took a bit of a battering last winter.
They all need some TLC over the coming months, so ideally we’re looking for a dry September to be able to prune and have a good bonfire. Loads of work in such a short space of time, however with the rewards for 2011 onwards, it should be a job well worth doing.
